Activity update on CAM Opportunities

I have had 4 new Brother Knights join me on Saturdays for the furniture pickups for the month of March 2008.  I will continue to schedule those who signed up for this ministry over the next couple of months. As we get more trained on how the process works, I would hope to have a number of teams that can be scheduled every other month or so to help with the pickup and make the time needed on Saturdays short. It was also decided to have the Senior Program perishable food picked up by the Saturday Furniture Pickup teams.

So, for the first 2 months of operation we have had:

  • Number of volunteer Knights: 12
  • Number of Knights’ volunteer hours: 33 hours

I will post some new pictures of our Saturdays together at CAM on our council webpage:

I would ask if others have volunteered at CAM in other areas please let me know so I can provide an update to the rest of the members. And a last note: If you would like to get involved in this great ministry feel free to email me at: chuckk281@yahoo.com and we will be sure to include you in our efforts. My sincere thanks to all who have signed up and to all those who have volunteered already. I have 16 Brother Knights signed up to help on Saturdays and a total of 27 Brother knights that have volunteered to assist in the service opportunities at CAM. You ROCK!!!!!

Activity update on CAM Opportunities

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) has asked for assistance from Council #8771 for help in 4 service areas. Brother Knights responded at the last meeting, February 19, 2008 in a very positive way of our support for these activities. The following areas were presented needing volunteer support:

  1. Weekly Furniture and Appliance Pick-up. Done each Saturday from 10A.M.-3P.M.
  2. Weekly pick-up of food at area grocery stores participating in the “End Hunger” campaign. Substitute workers needed when regular people cannot make it or there is a large amount to be picked up.
  3. Monthly pick-up of perishable foods at Food Town for the CAM Senior’s food program.
  4. Yearly support at Thanksgiving and Christmas when additional volunteers are needed to support the food drives and toys programs for CAM clients.

After the meeting was over, 26 Brother Knights came forward and signed up to support one or more of the service opportunities. This is a tremendous commitment from the council and will be a great help to CAM and the people that we will now touch as part of our commitment and service to CAM and our community. I met with Joan Christensen, CAM Director, and Kelly Thomas, Assistant Director, last week to provide the names and contact information for the areas that you signed up to help. Both Joan and Kelly are thrilled with you Brother Knights stepping in when your help was so desperately needed. You will be called on as the need for volunteers matches your commitment request. Some will not be contacted until this coming holiday season and some were providing help as soon as Saturday, February 23, 2008 and Saturday, March 1, 2008 with furniture pickup.

I have had 8 Brother Knights join me on Saturdays for the furniture pickups and I will be contacting the others who signed up for this ministry over the next couple of months. As we get more trained on how the process works, I would hope to have a number of teams that can be scheduled every other month or so to help with the pickup and make the time needed on Saturdays short. It was also decided to have the Senior Program perishable food picked up by the Saturday Furniture Pickup teams.

So, for the first couple of weeks we have had:

  • Number of volunteer Knights: 9
  • Number of Knights’ volunteer hours: 22 hours

I will post some pictures of our first 2 Saturday s together at CAM:

I would ask if others have volunteered at CAM in other areas please let me know so I can provide an update to the rest of the members. And a last note: If you would like to get involved in this great ministry feel free to email me at: chuckk281@yahoo.com and we will be sure to include you in our efforts. My sincere thanks to all who have signed up and to all those who have volunteered already. You ROCK!!!!!
